US-based Open Radio Access Network specialist Parallel Wireless said it has teamed up with public safety communications service provider Neptune Communications to deliver the first O-RAN compliant LTE infrastructure in the Caribbean. The deal will enable Neptune Communications to expand its wireless network service platform to provide resilient, next-generation digital services to transform the capabilities of key agencies of the government of Barbados, said Parallel.

Specifically the compact Open RAN network system will power Neptune’s LTE connectivity service platform on its recently-secured 700 MHz B14 spectrum concession, allowing the operator to integrate new applications to optimise the impact for day-to-day public safety operations. The RAN automation will also improve service agility and reduce overall Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) across geographically distributed sites, said the partners.
